Northwest Practice Areas

The ILS 12L at VGT has caused concern for safety of operations among the flight schools in Las Vegas as well as operation by individual pilots flying into the Northwest area between the military restricted areas east of Highway 95 and Mount Charleston mountain ranges.
The following information is presented to all those who fly in this area as an information to enhance safety.

1. There will be three areas of operation: Alpha, Bravo and Charlie.
2. Alpha will be the most critical of the three areas as the ILS 12L into VGT will be conducted above this area. All flight training / practice area operations are to be conducted below 4500 feet. This will allow ILS operations above 5000 feet. All instructors and flying personnel should maintain a visual vigilance for surrounding aircraft, both training area and ILS.
3. Bravo and Charlie will have no restriction on the altitude other than maintaining visual awareness as these areas are below a Military Alert Area.
4. All aircraft who are not communicating with Nellis Control, should be on 122.75 and announcing in the blind - altitude and location (over the houses, over Kyle Canyon Road, over the retention basin, etc.). Additionally the transmission should include the Area – Alpha, Bravo or Charlie. It is the intent that using the area will help with providing a immediate awareness of the location the aircraft is operating within.

REMEMBER THIS IS A VERY BUSY AREA, SAFETY IS PARAMOUNT, CHECK OUTSIDE REGULARLY, COMMUNICATE YOUR POSITION, AND MONITOR THE ILS FREQUENCY IF POSSIBLE.
